1. Is this "Vibe Coding"?

The Verdict: Yes, but with a twist.

  • Standard Vibe Coding: Fast, intuitive, often sloppy. "It works."
  • High-Assurance Vibe Coding: Using intuition ("vibes") to guide architecture, but using rigor (tests, types, benchmarks) to verify it.
  • The Process: Code -> Vibe Check ("This feels asymmetrical") -> Refactor.

2. The Junior Gap

The Question: Can a fresh graduate do this? The Answer: They can generate the code, but they cannot engineer the system.

  • The Velocity Trap: A junior stops at "It works." They miss the edge cases, safety risks, and architectural imbalances because they haven't felt the pain of maintaining bad code.
  • The Taste Gap: "Vibe Coding" relies on taste (calibrated intuition). AI removes the syntax barrier but highlights the judgment barrier.
  • Force Multiplier vs. Crutch: For an architect, AI is a force multiplier. For a novice, it can be a crutch that prevents learning.

3. Bridging the Gap: A Roadmap

How do we teach architectural judgment when the AI writes the code?

A. From Writers to Editors

  • Shift Education: Stop teaching construction (syntax). Teach critique (code review).
  • The New Assignment: "Here are 3 AI-generated solutions. Identify the unsafe one and explain why."

B. The Socratic AI

  • Tutor Mode: The AI shouldn't just output code. It should push back.
  • Example: "I can write that, but how will you handle empty collections?"

C. The Flight Simulator for Scars

  • Chaos Engineering: Use AI to generate tests that break the junior's code immediately.
  • Goal: Simulate years of production failures in minutes to build "distrust and verification" muscles.

D. Transparency as Policy

  • The Thought Trace: Make reading the AI's reasoning a requirement, not an option.
  • Glass Box: Stop treating AI as a magic black box. Expose the trade-offs.
