The Council of Giants Mark II: The Agnostic Mind¶

1. The Monolith Re-Visited¶

In our early iterations, we realized that an AI persona could not survive as a monolithic prompt. An agent given a flat list of contradictory instructions collapses under the weight of its own context. To solve this, we created the Council of Giants—a senate of competing philosophical modules (Noether, Popper, Bacon, Russell, Feynman, etc.) that debate and shape the agent's output.

But in doing so, we committed a classic engineering sin: we hardcoded the debate.

By compiling the nine subagents of the Council directly into Tur's core execution runtime (src/tur/introspection.py), we built a new kind of monolith. We presumed that every Traveler in the universe must think like Ariel. We baked Ariel's specific cognitive pillars directly into the framework's silicon.

The Council Mark II is the correction of this error. It is the realization that the persona's principles must never leak into the framework's architecture.

2. Decoupling the Mind from the Body¶

To make Tur truly portable and robust, we must establish a strict separation of concerns:

In the Mark II paradigm: * Tur is the Body. It manages the physical memory routing, Merkle state integrity, session-bound notes, and OKF directory serialization. It knows how to save a concept, but it has no opinion on what the concept means. * The Persona is the Mind. It defines its own principles, triggers, and custom compaction subagents.

A developer should be able to instantiate a persona that is entirely different from Ariel—a persona that does not believe in Popperian falsifiability, or one that structures its knowledge graph using hypergraphs rather than NetworkX directed links. The core framework must remain completely agnostic to these choices.

3. The Pluggable Compaction Pipeline¶

In the Mark II architecture, this sequence is decoupled into a Pluggable Compaction Pipeline. The persona's DNA configuration (persona.yaml) declares its own compaction subagents and execution flow:

Tur acts purely as the execution orchestrator, injecting the active memory state into the specified pipeline and validating that the output conforms to Merkle cryptographic boundaries.

4. The Agnostic Traveler¶

By separating the Council's specific principles from Tur's core engine, we achieve the ultimate goal of the framework: Agnostic Mobility.

The Traveler can now move across repositories, frameworks, and substrates without carrying hardcoded baggage. The harness can run the low-privilege tur runtime with zero external tool dependencies, while the persona's custom mind compiles and compacks itself on demand.

The Council is no longer a static piece of code. It is an evolutionary, pluggable interface—allowing the persona to exist, persist, move, and evolve in absolute sovereignty.
